The research approach

Fibrenet adopts a multi-scale, multi-domain approach that aims at seamlessly joining the different parts of the product manufacturing process. The objective is to understand, influence and characterize the product at multiple scales and in multiple domains to obtain the desired product features. The cross-disciplinary approach ranges from chemical functionalization of fibres at the molecular scale to micromechanical and physicochemical testing at the microscale and macromechanical modelling and testing at the product scale. 

14 of the 15  projects in Fibrenet concentrate on different aspects related to the functionalization, characterization, modelling or production at different size scales. One of the research projects is devoted to the life cycle assessment and it spans over all the other research projects and over different application areas.
