Merger of Tampere universities

The University of Tampere and Tampere University of Technology have merged on 1 January 2019. The name of the new foundation-based university is Tampere University. Together with the Tampere University of Applied Sciences it forms a university community that comprises of approximately 30 000 students and 4 400 employees. Research in the university community focuses especially on topics related to technology, health and society. The community’s new public website can be found at https://www.tuni.fi.

Along with the merger, the coordinating organization of Fibrenet—Tampere University of Technology—ceased to exist. The coordination responsibilities were taken over by the new Tampere University. In practice, the merger has no effect on Fibrenet. All the Fibrenet-personnel at the coordinator’s organization remains the same as previously—as well as most of their contact information. The email addresses have been changed from firstname.surname@tut.fi to firstname.surname@tuni.fi. However, also the old email addresses will remain valid throughout the project.
